Week 2 Reading Reflection

Hey everyone,

The biggest surprise for me in the reading was the fact that so many Americans have chosen to create their own businesses during the Great Recession. 600,000 new businesses annually for the past 10 years is an astounding number. The economy has been struggling, yet more and more entrepreneurs are willing to take the risk and enter the business world alone. One thing that confused me was why some people think that educational development stifles entrepreneurship. I believe the base knowledge provided by the education system is necessary for young people. Sure, school can be boring, linear, and methodic but it is impossible for any entrepreneur to succeed without background knowledge of history, politics, math, and communication skills. The two questions I would ask to the author is How do I best go about going to school and developing a business? and Is the USA the best country to work in? These two questions linger in my mind because as a college student, I want to succeed in the moment, but ultimately use my time wisely to set up a bright future. Just because Americans are creating businesses by the second doesn't mean it is the best place to conduct such business. I don't really disagree with anything the author said- I love how he included multiple theories of entrepreneurship and traits of entrepreneurs but still reminds readers that the entrepreneurial mindset is the common denominator of them all.
