In a previous post, I mentioned that I have had an entrepreneurial mindset since I was about 14. I was an eighth grader who wanted a cool hobby. I naturally gravitated towards sneaker culture, as I had always loved shoes. I began buying shoes online but that was risky; too many of my friends had been scammed. I
decided that I needed to stop relying on avenues such as eBay for my closet-run business.
User ratings are too easily inflated and Paypal routinely defers case
settlements to the buyer. Instead, I needed a marketplace filled with honest
users engaging in commerce. Two friends and I created a South Florida sneaker
group named “Size 11-13 ONLY". We
became the page’s administrators, helping to monitor deals, perform legitimacy
checks on possibly-counterfeit shoes, and most importantly, only authorize
consistent, well-known profiles to conduct business.
I enrolled in this course mainly because I am interested in expanding my entrepreneurial mindset and learning about famous entrepreneurs. I hope to open my own business or law firm in the future and avoid common start-up mistakes.

That is fantastic Ryan! I really like the name of your company, and realizing the importance in having a good reputation and word of mouth. More importantly you found something that you are passionate about, and a means to make some much needed cash. I look forward to learning more about you through the class.

ReplyDeleteMy younger brother actually tried something like this using a website called "One-Cent Kicks." They used a bidding system, but he ended up getting shoes that were worth a lot of money for a couple dollars. Do you still run the sneaker group or is it mostly when you're home?

Here is a link to my entrepreneurship story. There isn't too much in common between our stories specifically, but I think it's kind of interesting how in general we've had somewhat similar experiences involving selling shoes.

This is one of the coolest ideas I have ever read about. I think that it was so smart of you to see a problem and come up with a solution on your own. I can't wait to read more about you business and hope it works out well for you. Instead of playing a sport or doing something else, you went out and created something which I see as very creative.

This is the link to my entrepreneurship story. Although we don't really have many similarities between our stories, since mine is about my mother, I think it would be cool seeing that we both have witnessed someone or in your case yourself, start something out of nothing. I look forward to reading more about you this semester!
